Colosseum - Exterior Views

The view of the Colosseum from the Forum and Palatine Hill.

The Colosseum with the Arch of Constantine

Interesting clouds in this one...

A little bit farther around from the photo above

The Colosseum behind the entrance to the Forum

The tallish bit peaking through the trees

Looking back from the entrance to the Forum

One of the tallest remaining parts of the structure

Similar the the above shot

More of the outside of the Colosseum (you can see the Arch of Constantine in the lower left corner too)

More of the same!

Looking up the side

See below for a close-up of the bright on the topmost arch. I loved how the bright blue skies of that day contrasted with the building through the arches

Interesting brickwork around this opening

We were all going to pose for pictures under the numbered arch corresponding to our ages... until I remembered that my age was XXX in Roman numerals! (Look above the bottom arch for the numbers)

I tried to capture the sense of the immense scale of the tallest surviving part of the Colosseum, but of course this doesn't do it justice!
